The artist has donated the complete sum of his £25k honor prize money to the MVT, which functions to protect the United Kingdom's independent live music spots.

The star was presented with the award on mid-October as his third album People Watching was named the best record of the last 12 months.

The musician has chosen to donate the funds to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the essential function local spots played in his early career.

"I would not have achieved my current career if it hadn't been for all the shows I played around the region, and further afield, when I was starting out," said the artist. "These locations are iconic, but they are struggling."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these venues have shut down – approximately one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, major artists such as the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its efforts to help venues survive, by adding a modest fee to their ticket costs, which goes to help independent venues.

He also participated, generating over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to help thirty-eight small stages across Britain.

The donation helped venues that were dealing with potential shutdown due to challenges arising from flooding, blazes and personal losses, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Other venues obtained financial assistance in upgrading amenities and sound and lighting systems that helped musicians and concertgoers.

"The idea that money from concerts in large arenas helps the local stages, where it begins for artists like me, is just sensible," Fender has said.

"Winning was ample," said vocalist the singer. "The money was the bonus but we didn't require the extra, because we had the honor. So our success touched the lives of others."

In the past week, the MVT revealed it had saved two small stages in south-east England, by bringing them into public stewardship.

One venue in Southampton and the other in that location were purchased under the community ownership scheme, which is supported by the arts council and supporters who acquire "stakes" in the buildings.
