The buzz surrounding The Game Awards has been intense, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team might be designing a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it kicked off the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, player agency, and flexible progression—elements that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities only possible with a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously flexible, allowing players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in multiple ways, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a inventive way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
